Embers of Avalon is a deeply-melodic punk-influenced synthpop act, with lyrics that range from profoundly introspective to completely absurd. Started in 2003, it evolved from a longing the man known as Kris Avalon has had since the mid-90s to explore the type of music that spoke to him like no other: This is referring, of course, to Joy Electric. Over the years he has tinkered and experimented and found his own style (or perhaps styles), "but has never forgotten his original inspiration." "If it weren't for Joy Electric, I probably never would have forged the love that I have for synthesizer-based music. The first JE song I ever heard was 'The Cobbler,' On Tooth and Nail's Rock Sampler compilation CD a few years ago. I was instantly blown away, to the point where I could hardly even process the strange and unique sounds that I was hearing. I was so inspired that I ran out to Virgin Megastore the very next day and purchased Robot Rock. The rest is history. I have enjoyed a lot of different bands through the years, and many of them I have grown tired of, but I always come back to Joy Electric. The music still resonates with me like no other." "I chose to cover Sorcery for a few reasons. For one thing, the Five Stars For Failure version has always been one of my favorite Joy Electric tracks. Also, I felt that the fast-paced and frantic nature of it is really representative of the type of music I have been enjoying as of late, and elements of which I have been trying to incorporate into my own sound. I've always loved the cryptic lyrics of the song, the haunting vocals, the intense melody. For me, the song remains one of Ronnie Martin's hidden treasures." www.myspace.com/embersofavalon
